Clinical and Communication Skills for Oncology Professionals

About

Target Audience:
Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Radiation therapists and nurses  working in oncology and radiotherapy departments.

Objectives:
The main objective of this course is to improve the communication and clinical skills of oncology professionals to enhance the management and understanding of their patients. Interdisciplinary communication and teamwork will also be enhanced through participation in this course.

Course Description:

This is a 5 day interactive course.
Participants in the course improve communication and clinical skills through encountering simulated patients (actors) in scenarios focusing on internationally recognized clinical core competencies, and patient safety management. Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels, and audio-visual recordings are made for the debriefing sessions. On completion of the encounter, the participant receives feedback from the simulated patient, colleagues and debriefing facilitators and the recorded encounter is watched and discussed in the debriefing session.
The training focuses both on therapist-patient communication to empower oncology professionals as they treat patients at a most vulnerable period in their lives, and on inter-disciplinary communication.
